Seasons of Memories

Season For Memories

My ears have heard the sounds of spring A distant thunderstorm I close my eyes and think of you A haven in the storm. My eyes have seen the daffodils We’ve walked amongst the flowers The days were long, I’d sing a song To brighten up the hours

. My joy has turned to summer bliss A time spent in the park As we hold hands and fly our kites Next to a meadow lark. My mind is filled with visions A lovely sun-drenched day The way the light shines on your face Does take my breath away

. My mind is veiled with autumn days As leaves swirl through the air A peaceful stroll down country roads We seek God’s presence there. My life is swept by years gone by The seasons seem to blend I see you in the golden haze I feel you in the wind.

My soul is draped in winter wear The flakes come swirling down The warmth we share, while standing there The special love, I’ve found. My heart still years, my soul does burn To hold you, oh so tight Two shadows braced against the sky One starry moon-lit night. ©2008 Marilyn Ferguson

All trails remained open at Chimney Rock Park today following the weekend death of a 2-year-old boy who fell from a cliff, a park official said this morning. Authorities continued to investigate the boy’s fall. He was identified as Giovani Chavez, of Spartanburg, S.C. The child’s parents, Bibiana and Arturo Chavez, were with him at the time he fell a hundred feet or more from the Skyline-Cliff Loop trail Saturday. The investigation had not determined the specific point from which the child fell, park Superintendent Adrienne Wallace said. Handrails, picket fencing and chains line sections of the trail, she said. The park describes the Skyline-Cliff Trail as having “sheer cliffs and breathtaking views.” The trail is noted as offering a moderately strenuous hike of one and one-half to two hours across cliffs and ledges. The trail also had warning signs that hikers should take safety precautions, Wallace said. The signs are printed in English and Spanish. Park staff learned about 10:30 a.m. that the child had fallen. Within a minute, trail walkers arrived at the scene to begin rescue efforts and summon additional help. Several emergency, fire and police crews responded, Wallace said. Two climbers rappelled down the cliff and began CPR and medical treatment on the boy. Crews were able to move the boy to an ambulance, and he was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The rescue effort took about 90 minutes. Mary Jaeger-Gale, park general manager, said she was unaware of any other fatalities in the park’s recent history. North Carolina in 2007 acquired Chimney Rock Park from the Morse family, who had operated the private mountain attraction about 25 miles southeast of Asheville for 100 years. The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation now manages Chimney Rock Park as a part of the state parks system. The state has contracted with Chimney Rock Management to operate the park as it was run by the Morse family. In your voice

When two New Zealand pilots ran out of fuel in a microlight airplane they offered prayers and were able to make an emergency landing in a field — coming to rest right next to a sign reading, "Jesus is Lord." ADVERTISEMENT Grant Stubbs and Owen Wilson, both from the town of Blenheim on the country's South Island, were flying up the sloping valley of Pelorus Sound when the engine spluttered, coughed and died. "My friend and I are both Christians so our immediate reaction in a life-threatening situation was to ask for God's help," Stubbs told The Associated Press on Wednesday. He said he prayed during the ill-fated flight Sunday that the tiny craft would get over the top of a ridge and that they would find a landing site that was not too steep — or in the nearby sea. Wilson said that the pair would have been in deep trouble if the fuel had run out five minutes earlier. "If it had to run out, that was the place to be," he said. "There was an instantaneous answer to prayer as we crossed the ridge and there was an airfield — I didn't know it existed till then." After Wilson glided the powerless craft to a landing on the grassy strip, the pair noticed they were beside a 20-foot-tall sign that read, "Jesus is Lord — The Bible." "When we saw that, we started laughing," Stubbs said. Nearby residents provided them with gas to fly the home-built plane back to base

Sweet Memories

Sweet Memories In quiet times I often sit And find my mind adrift To another place, another time And oh! My spirits lift

! I see your happy, smiling face, And that twinkle in your eye. I hear you sing your favorite song And I laugh...and then I cry. Inside my heart Sweet Memories

Stay with me each day I cherish, and I cling to them For I miss you in every way. Each thing I see... Each thing I do, brings you close to me For everything upon this earth Brings Sweet Memories of you.

I imagine our reunion Some day at heaven's gate It fills my heart with happiness... But for now, I'll have to wait. Until my life upon this earth And my work here is complete Sweet Memories will keep me

Until at last again we meet. ~ Charlotte Anselmo ~

Quotes from Emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson 1803-1882. American poet, essayist and lecturer. Emerson A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere. Before him, I may think aloud.

More quotes on Friendship The secret in education lies in respecting the student.

More quotes on Education The glory of friendship is not in the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is in the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him

. More quotes on Friendship

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

More quotes on Achievement

No one can cheat you out of ultimate success but yourself. More quotes on Self-reliance Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind. More quotes on Integrity A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer

. More quotes on Heroes

Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.

More quotes on Courage

I didn't find my friends; the good Lord gave them to me.

More quotes on Friendship

Truth is the property of no individual but is the treasure of all men.

LIFE'S TUG OF WAR

LIFE'S TUG OF WAR Life can seem ungrateful and not always kind... Life can pull at your heartstrings and play with your mind... Life can be blissful and happy and free... Life can put beauty in the things that you see ... Life can place challenges right at your feet... Life can make good of the hardships we meet... Life can overwhelm you and make your head spin... Life can reward those determined to win... Life can be hurtful and not always fair... Life can surround you with people who care ... Life clearly does offer its ups and its downs... Life's days can bring you both smiles and frowns... Life teaches us to take the good with the bad... Life is a mixture of happy and sad... SO... Take the life that you have and give it your best... Think positive be happy let God do the rest... Take the challenges that life has laid at your feet... Take pride and be thankful for each one you meet... To yourself give forgiveness if you stumble and fall... Take each day that is dealt you and give it your all... Take the love that you're given and return it with care... Have faith that when needed it will always be there... Take time to find the beauty in the things that you see... Take life's simple pleasures let them set your heart free... The idea here is simply to even the score... As you are met and faced with Life's Tug of War. ~ Dr. James Robert Rowe-Loy ~

Momma's Gifts

Momma's Gifts The chill you get for no reason at all; Is Momma smoothing your hair. A brush on your face when no one's around? Momma's kiss on your cheek, so dear. When you feel a warmth come over you With no one else in sight; It's Momma's arms surrounding you And holding you so tight. That penny you find just lying there When you feel so down and blue; Is Momma saying, "I'm always here, And watching over you!" A smile you feel deep in your heart When nothing's been said or done, Is Momma whispering in your ear, "I love you, Precious One!" ~ Debbie Edmiaston ~
